Installing 64-bit MySQL 5.5.8 on OS X Snow Leopard from DMG Archive

Hey all, I've installed MySQL successfully on multiple occasions, using the friendly installer provided in the DMG archives for OS X. However, my most recent attempts have fallen flat. This is 64-bit MySQL 5.5.8 on OS X 10.6.6 we're playing with. 32-bit also seems to have the same problem. I'm gonna go through a clean installation as I write this post, so here we go. This is, of course, being done in an administrator account. I run through the installer, and everything goes just fine. Full installer log available if you'd like it. Next, I install the preference pane. Due to what I believe is an unrelated problem, I can't install the preference pane for all users, like I want to. If I try, System Preferences hangs indefinitely. Instead, I manually install the preference pane by placing it in /Library/PreferencePanes. Lastly, I install the startup item, which also believes itself to have installed correctly. Now I try to start the server using the handy button in the preference pane. Nothing happens, and this is logged to the console: 800 System Preferences about to perform command 811 authexec executing /Library/PreferencePanes/MySQL.prefPane/Contents/Resources/mahelper 800 [0x0-0x4b04b].com.apple.systempreferences /usr/local/mysql/support-files/mysql.server: line 256: my_print_defaults: command not found 800 System Preferences status= 0 Repeated attempts to start the server cause the same thing, omitting the second line. Any ideas? Let me know if you need more information. Mysql Dmg File For Mac
